Domino Magazine Launch: Decorating tips, gift bags and bathroom queues

Oh, Domino.jpg

Domino, the latest shelter title from Condé Nast, is set to launch with a flourish tonight for a highly exclusive guest list of 1200. (We generally only invite our 1100 closest friends to parties, but who are we to judge?)

A spinoff of Lucky, Domino will advise “30-year-old homeowners on buying domestic goods from wallpaper to garden tools” (yay, Maer just squeaks in!)

The staff worked overtime, our sources say, to stuff gift bags and kit out the Skylight Studio on Hudson with “really tasteful elements” befitting the launch of an upscale design mag (though the exercise was not without mishap – apparently a $1500 decorative antique chair was damaged in the process. There’s a domino joke in here somewhere).

Our sources tell us attendees will nibble on M&M’s in the party’s colors of brown and light blue and receive gift bags containing 27 items, including:

really nice pillowcases, candlesticks, candles, liquid soap, liquid breath mints, tea from Teany, retractable measuring tape, a “fancy” orange spatula, pot holder, eye cream, apron, CD (either Daft Punk, Ben Harper, some dance compilation or Lenny Kravitz), mascara, a “weird slimline plastic chopping board,” a book, and a towel – all in a chic brown bag with pale blue striped handles. (And don’t try to double-fist: “they’re so heavy you can only carry one.”)

Though goods for eBay resale will clearly be in plentiful supply, opportunities for a wee will not, with only three women’s bathrooms for the entire party. (Ladies, I’d lay off the champagne).
