Dueling Candidates: Obama and McCain Laugh it Up at the Al Smith Dinner

mccainsmith.pngWow. Who knew? Turns out the old John McCain is actually alive and well and was seen hanging out at last night’s Al Smith Dinner along with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Both candidates gave a speech at the dinner, and actually McCain’s was smart, and sharp, and very funny. Also disconcerting. We all understand that campaigns are farcical in many ways, however, if these two candidates can manage to “pal around” with each other over expensive food, with distinguished guests, a mere 48 hours after a contentious debate and have a sense of humor about it at the same time, why do we have to listen to all the negative campaign garbage and Joe the Plumber debate lines?! Why can’t they just take their white tie show on the road for the next three weeks and spare us the disingenuous(?) antipathy. Anyway, it’s actually funny to watch. Obama (“I do love the Waldorf Astoria, you know I hear that from the doorstep you can see all the way to the Russian Tea Room”) and McCain (“Maverick I can do but Messiah is above my pay grade”) do their thing after the jump.
