Three months after Richard Beckman took over as CEO of Conde Nast-owned Fairchild Fashion Group, he has made his first big hire. Beckman has brought on former Men’s Vogue publisher Marc Berger as publisher of trade pub Footwear News.
Berger has replaced Jay Spaleta, who was named publisher of WWD in April 2004 and moved to oversee the smaller trade publications DNR and FN in August 2007. After DNR folded last year, Spaleta’s only charge was FN, Conde Nast‘s smallest magazine.

MARC BERGER NAMED PUBLISHER OF FOOTWEAR NEWS
Marc Berger has been named Publisher of Footwear News, it was announced today by Richard D. Beckman, President & CEO, Fairchild Fashion Group. His appointment is effective immediately.
“Marc’s a veteran of both Conde Nast and the publishing industry with extensive experience in the luxury and fashion categories,” Beckman said. “His knowledge of the business makes him a welcome addition to the Fairchild Fashion Group as Publisher of Footwear News.”
Mr. Berger was most recently the Publisher of Men’s Vogue. Previously, from 2006 to 2008, he was the Associate Publisher of Details. Prior to that, he held the positions of Associate Publisher and Advertising Director at Cargo and Vanity Fair, respectively. Mr. Berger was at GQ (1999 to 2003) where he was advertising director and was also named their Sales Person of the Year in 2000. He began his publishing career with the launch of the men’s lifestyle magazine POV in 1997.
Mr. Berger holds a B.A in Communications from Tulane University. He lives in Manhattan with his wife and daughter.
