Ex-NYT Public Editor Clark Hoyt Joins Bloomberg News

hoyt08092010.jpgClark Hoyt, former public editor for The New York Times, is trucking down to Washington, DC, to take a high-level editorial position at Bloomberg News‘ bureau there. He’ll be working directly under editor in chief Matthew Winkler, Future of Capitalism reports.

Beyond the revolving-door update, Future of Capitalism also plays a little connect-the-dots:

Politico reported in November 2009 that the Bloomberg Washington Bureau, at 140 staffers, is three times the size of the New York Times’s. The Politico Web site also reported that “Executive Washington editor Al Hunt is expected to step away from much of the bureau’s day-to-day management,” and the news that Mr. Hoyt will be reporting to Mr. Winkler rather than to Mr. Hunt is the sort of thing that people interested in this sort of thing like to pay attention to.

Before his three-year stint as public editor at the Times, Hoyt was vice president of news for Knight Ridder from 1993 to 1999. He also shared in a 1973 Pulitzer Prize. He penned his final column as the Times‘ reader advocate in June.
