Gaming Magazine Becomes Latest Ziff Davis Casualty

ziffdavis01.07.09.jpgElectronic Gaming Monthly, a bible for many in the gaming community, will cease to exist in print after its January 2009 issue. The news comes as part of a deal that involves struggling Ziff Davis Media selling its 1Up.com group of Web sites to UGO Entertainment. When the latter company decided not to purchase EGM, Ziff Davis made the decision to shut it down.

Thirty people lost their jobs as a result of the sale and shuttering.

“The transaction allows us to pay down debt and shift our full focus to our core PCMag Digital Network business,” Ziff Davis CEO Jason Young said in a statement.

In November, Ziff Davis completed a seven-year process to take PC Magazine all-digital.
