Giants Clincher Takes the Weekly Ratings Top Spot
The Giants regular season finale, a win and in the playoffs, was the easy winner of the week, according to Nielsen. The Giants won NBC’s Sunday Night Football, 31-14 against the Cowboys, with 2.9 million WNBC/Channel 4 viewers tuned in and a whopping 15.0 rating.
The final half hour of pre-game show Football Night in America settled for second place (1.4 million/7.5). The 7:30 p.m. segment had a 10th-place finish (637,000/3.3).
CBS also rated high for their NFL coverage. The 7:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. portion Sunday night drew 1.2 million WCBS/Channel viewers. It tied for third place with a 6.6 rating. The second half of the network’s doubleheader landed at number five (1.2 million/6.3).
Also at number three was the 10 p.m. hour of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Eve Rockin Eve ’12 with Ryan Seacrest (1.2 million/6.6). The special two-hour Rockin’ Eve 40th anniversary retrospective placed eighth (753,000/3.9).

With X Factor concluded and American Idol yet to begin, WNYW/Channel 5 failed to crack the Top 30.
TBS made a rare appearance in the weekly survey, with syndicated sitcom Big Bang Theory at number 27 (409,000/2.1).
