Jann Wenner is releasing one last Hunter S. Thompson related property. Gonzo: The Life of Hunter S. Thompson is scheduled to come out in October from Simon & Schuster. The Daily News‘ Rush & Molloy ran a short item of highlights from the oral history:
Jack Nicholson jumped out of Thompson’s window after the writer pulled out a gun on him in the middle of a house.
Jimmy Carter recounts the time Thompson built a fire in front of his press secretary’s hotel room to smoke him out.
Johnny Depp reveals Thompson’s favorite shooting target in his later years: nitroglycerine tanks.
Douglas Brinkley gives an extensive recap of Thompson’s suicide talks with Sean Penn.
Sandy Thompson mentions how Thompson bought Hell’s Angels to a “hippie love-in” at Ken Kesey‘s farm that turned into a “gang bang.”
Yeah, that last one is pretty bad. Curious to see how the book will compare to Tom Wolfe‘s tribute to Thompson for the Wall Street Journal.
