Good Day New York Consoles Idol Reject Pia Toscano

In what was one of the biggest (and earliest) upsets in American Idol history, Howard Beach’s Pia Toscano was eliminated last night.  In the 9 a.m. hour of Good Day New York, the hometown girl, Toscano, was interviewed live from Los Angeles by Greg Kelly and Rosanna Scotto.

During the four-minute talk, the anchors showed how incredulous her elimination was.

“I’ve been consoling Greg all morning because he’s been hysterical about it,” Scotto said.

”Oh Pia, we are still very confused,” Kelly told Toscano. “You are clearly the  most talented person of the [group]. You’re tops. That was kind of the collective wisdom. Everybody really assumed you would win.”

At the conclusion of the conversation, it was revealed that Toscano will join Kelly and Scotto in-studio next week.

“We’re gonna give you a big hug when we see you,” Scotto said.

“I need a hug,” Toscano replied.

Kelly ended the interview by being the messenger to more than two dozen friends and family members who sent well wishes.

“We really are all kind of astonished at what happened to you,” Kelly said.  “…You seem to be taking it well.”

“Better than us, we’re shattered,” Scotto said.

Earlier in the morning, Fox 5 sent reporter Antwan Lewis to Howard Beach for some reaction to Toscano’s ouster. Needless to say, the neighborhood is 100 percent behind Toscano.

During one live segment, a woman almost started to cry when mentioning two young girls that were driven to tears from the announcement. Another woman declared that she was no longer watching Idol. A quick thinking Lewis interjected, “No, we don’t want you to do that.”
