Has The Metro Found A Buyer? (And Is It The Gray Lady?)

Is the New York Times Company going to become the sole owner of the New York and Boston editions of free daily Metro? FishbowlNY is hearing that the New York Times Company has made an offer to buy out the New York and Boston editions of the paper. The Times Co. already owns 49% of the Boston Metro.

As reported earlier today, the international newspaper chain has put their NYC, Boston and Philly properties up for sale.

We have not heard any indications that the Times Co. has shown interest in purchasing the Philadelphia Metro — as we hear it, their sale proposal was limited to New York and Boston only.

Times Co. spokeswoman Catherine J. Mathis declined comment, citing longstanding company policy. Metro Boston editor Saul Williams declined comment as well. Phone calls to the New York edition of Metro were not returned by presstime.
