It looks like The Huffington Post is serious about making money in 2010.
Today, the online publication announced the creation of four new senior positions on its sales team, expanding the group that sells ads on the site and turns a profit for it. The new hires include Andy Wiedlin as VP of sales, West Coast; Philip Cara as VP of sales, East Coast; Peter Cherukuri as VP and general manager of HuffPo’s Washington, D.C. office; and Brian Kaminsky as VP, director of sales operations.
The group brings experience from formerly working at places like AOL, MySpace and Reuters. D.C.-based Cherukuri, formerly of Roll Call, will be focusing on expanding HuffPo’s political and issues-based advertising.

THE HUFFINGTON POST APPOINTS FOUR TO SENIOR SALES MANAGEMENT POSITIONS
Newly Created Positions Continue Expansion of Sales Group
New York, NY, January 6, 2009 — The Huffington Post (“HuffPost”), a leading social news and opinion site, announces today four appointments to newly created senior positions on its sales team. Andy Wiedlin has been named VP of Sales, West Coast; Philip Cara has been named VP of Sales, East Coast; Peter Cherukuri has been named VP and General Manager of HuffPost’s DC office; and Brian Kaminsky has been named VP, Director of Sales Operations. Greg Coleman, President and Chief Revenue Officer of The Huffington Post, made the announcement.
“Andy, Philip, Peter and Brian bring to HuffPost tremendous experience from a range of well-known media brands, including Yahoo!, Reuters, Roll Call, MySpace and AOL,” said Coleman. “These appointments will greatly expand upon the capabilities and reach of our sales organization and help drive HuffPost’s continued revenue growth.”
Cara was most recently Regional Sales Director for AOL Advertising, and was Sales and Marketing Director at Yahoo! Consumer Direct for seven years. He will be based in HuffPost’s New York City headquarters. Wiedlin was most recently VP, West Sales for MySpace, and has over a decade of experience in online sales, including leading a sales team of 20+ at Yahoo! for five years. He will be based in San Francisco, California. Kaminsky was most recently VP of Global Revenue Operations for Reuters Media, and was previously Director of Operations and Business Manager, East, of Yahoo! He’ll be based in New York.
Cherukuri will expand upon The Huffington Post’s growing roster of political and issues-based advertising, leveraging the site’s influence in the DC marketplace. Cherukuri was most recently SVP and Publisher of Roll Call, where he played a key role in shifting the publication from a primarily print business to a multimedia information company.
