A quick update, confirming what Fishbowl suspected: Notwithstanding the attempts by the Times and other NY outlets to give the Doc a proper sendoff while we wait for the long-lede mags to get into gear, it’s still local Denver Post that writes the first obit including quotes from humans who knew Thompson well and whom the reporter has actually called rather than using canned information. Catch up, everybody.

Update: Here’s what Rolling Stone has come up with, so far. Fishbowl hopes that’s not all, surely. Because, in an era obsessed with Paris Hilton’s purloined text messages, there’s always a risk HST will fade away without having been given his due. C’mon, Jann. Give us that cover. Watch this space.
