Chris Wragge Named Early Show Weekday Co-Anchor, Set to Leave WCBS
Chris Wragge, the personable WCBS evening news anchor, is joining CBS’ The Early Show full time.
As first reported by our own TVNewser (and the Associated Press) the network is removing its entire weekday on-air staff; co-anchors Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez and weatherman Dave Price. Wragge, who had been Smith’s main back-up, takes over on a regular basis.
Wragge is currently the regular Saturday Early Show co-host with Erica Hill. The duo make the move together to weekdays.
Now with steady morning hours, FishbowlNY has learned that Wragge will leave the anchor desk permanently at WCBS.
Wragge is the WCBS anchor at 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. with Kristine Johnson.
He joined Channel 2 in 2004 as the station’s main sports anchor. Wragge’s star took flight as he rose to news anchor two years later.
The Early Show changes are reportedly scheduled to begin on Jan. 3.
