John Noble Wilford to Take Times Buyout

nytlogo153x23.gifNYT science writer John Noble Wilford emailed us to confirm yesterday’s rumor that he’ll take a buyout. The two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner, who’s been covering the archeology and paleontology beat, will continue to write for the paper.

Yes, I am planning to take the buyout. Nothing is signed right now, but I expect it soon will be. I am 74 and have been at the Times since 1965, so the timing seems right for me. I have been assured that I can continue to contribute occasional articles, particularly on archeology and paleontology. Regards, John

Congrats on a long career of excellence, Mr. Wilford. You’ll be missed.
