Just the Calm, Soothing Facts

If you’ve got some time to spare at noon, The Leonard Lopate Show on WNYC is discussing fact checking in publishing. “The revelation that James Frey made up incidents in his best-selling memoir set off a scandal in the publishing world. We’ll ask what impact it’s likely to have on the industry’s fact-checking process. Morgan Entrekin, publisher of Grove/Atlantic, memoirist/poet Mary Karr (Sinners Welcome), and Marie Arana, editor of The Washington Post Book World, join us.”

The synopsis suggests that there is already a “fact-checking process” in publishing. Considering there isn’t one to speak of, Leonard’s etheric tones could be fighting dead air.
