After only 15 months on the job, Kenard Gibbs is out as publisher of Ebony and Jet, Min reports. Gibbs didn’t reveal his next step, telling Amy Novak, “It’s simply time for me to move on.” His successor has not been named.
Through August, ad pages for Ebony and Jet were down almost 12 percent and more than 15 percent, respectively.
And how is Gibbs’ former employer, Vibe Media Group, doing?
Vibe — the Quincy Jones-founded pub where Gibbs served as president — announced its October issue would feature a redesign led by Luke Hayman’s Pentragram design team.
“Changing to a slightly smaller format will be more cost efficient, ultimately allowing us to offer a higher-quality publication, while maintaining our leadership position in the marketplace,” Edgar Hernandez, publisher, VMG, said in a release. Translation: “We like cheap.”
