There have been enough memories at Madison Square Garden to fill a museum, and MSG officials are doing just that!
With the second-leg of the transformation project set for completion in the fall, the “Memorable Moments Every Day” exhibit will debut.
The expanded 6th floor concourse, which already features additional retail stores, restrooms and one-of-a-kind food and beverage offerings, will now include the visual retrospective bringing to life one moment in Garden history for every day of the year.
The retrospective will wrap the entire circumference of the arena, creating a visual calendar of the Garden’s rich history.
“We are honored that Madison Square Garden has played host to so many iconic moments in sports and entertainment history, and value the unique connection fans, athletes and performers have with The Garden,” said Hank Ratner, president and CEO, The Madison Square Garden Company. “Paying tribute to the Arena’s storied history is a priority for us and, as part of the Transformation, we will showcase both the memorable moments that happen every day along with the Garden’s most defining moments. This phase of the Transformation will preserve and celebrate the great history that has made The Garden such a special place for the more than four million people who walk through our doors annually.”
While walking the concourse, fans will be able to recall and learn about 366 remarkable Garden moments, from the entire 132 year-history, spanning sports, music, entertainment, and politics. Among historic events that appeared under the Garden roof: Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier, The Concert for New York City, New York Knicks and Rangers Championships, and the Republican and Democratic National Conventions.
The complete list of “Memorable Moments Every Day” will be unveiled in the fall when the building reopens following the second off-season shutdown for the transformation.
In addition, 20 of the Garden’s “Defining Moments” will be commemorated on the 8th floor Madison concourse and Garden concourse through special exhibits that will feature photos, memorabilia and additional artifacts, representing each of these amazing moments in Garden history. The first 10 “Defining Moments” will be unveiled this fall on the Madison Concourse, and the remaining 10 will be integrated into the Garden Concourse for debut in the fall of 2013.
Fans can help determine which 20 moments will be showcased by visiting www.facebook.com/madisonsquaregarden to vote for their own top five moments. While that voting ends May 15th, those who participate will be entered to win a variety of prizes, including autographed memorabilia, tickets to events at the Garden. One grand prize winner will receive a pair of Garden seats plus an all-expense, roundtrip flight and free admission to the MSG event of their choice.
