Andy Pemberton Spins Changes in Editor's Letter

andy_pemberton.jpgWe're looking at the June issue of Spin, the first to include a note from newly-installed editor-in-chief Andy Pemberton. And after all of the staff upheaval following the magazine's sale earlier this year, you'd figure Pemberton would take the opportunity to address the changes.

Well, he addresses changes, but not the ones we were hoping for:

Keen-eyed readers will notice Spin has changed. Is it our hair? Have we lost weight? A new pair of pants perhaps? No. In preparation for summer, Spin has thrown off the cloak of conformity and donned the leopard-print Speedos of adventure.

The all new Spin is tan, lithe, and sinewy. Round the back end, we've got extra heft (two brand new sections—Navigator and Spin 101—and twice as many reviews). Up front there's extra bounce, in the curvy shape of the Barometer section. The middle has rock-hard features you could eat your dinner off of. And have you seen our admirably taut cover feature?

Is Pemberton cribbing Men's Health? Will we soon see Spin covers glisten, Dave Zinczenko-style?

FishbowlNY's Spin Coverage:

Spin's Newest Hire? The 'Madame of Punk Rock Porn' of Course
Killing Yourself to Leave Spin: 100% of a True Story
More Spin Moves Spun Out
Spin's Obligatory 'We Got Sold' Meeting?

Pemberton's full editor's note:

Spin is now buff, bold and ready to throw open the doors and go wherever the future leads. I do hope you'll slap on some SPF 45 and come join the fun. But please don't bring the thong. Not sure it really "works" with those flip-flops.

Enjoy the new issue.
