Texas Monthly Wins Absurd Amount of 2006 CRMA Awards

texas_monthly_crma_awards_sm.jpgHonorary-FishbowlNYer Evan Smith and his Texas Monthly won 16 awards, including the top award in nine categories, at the 21st Annual National City and Regional Magazine Awards competition announced June 19th at CRMA's annual conference in Boston. In fact, the only thing close to a magazine in FishbowlNY's waters to win a CRMA was Buffalo Spree — we're not counting Philadelphia, which won four, until they take down those spiteful ads.

21st ANNUAL NATIONAL CITY AND REGIONAL MAGAZINE AWARD WINNERS

Texas Monthly, Indianapolis Monthly and Aspen magazines won gold awards for general excellence in their circulation categories in the 21st Annual National City and Regional Magazine Awards competition announced June 19th at CRMA's annual conference in Boston.

Perennial CRMA winner Texas Monthly won an unprecedented 16 awards, including the top award in nine categories: criticism, cover, excellence in writing, excellence in design, civic journalism and others. Following close behind was Los Angeles magazine with 13. In addition to general excellence, Los Angeles won gold awards in food/dining writing, personality profile, feature design, and leisure and lifestyle interests.

Atlanta magazine won five awards, Chicago and Philadelphia magazines took four. Boston and Indianapolis Monthly each captured three. This year's competition also saw a number of smaller circulation titles take prizes: Berkshire Living (with two, including a bronze for general excellence), Memphis, Buffalo Spree, Hour Detroit and others. Two magazines were first-time winners. Evansville Living won bronze for covers and Gulfshore Life took bronze for regular column.
