Time Out New York Gets Even More Servicey

ownthiscity.JPGWe can barely afford anything in this town — we knew we should have majored in econ — but those Time Out New York kids want to help us out regardless. The Gotham to-do mag debuted a new section, "Own This City," in this week's issue. It's a revamping of "Around Town," which we're sad to see go because we used to write for it occasionally, but glad to see updated.

From the email we received, the section sounds a bit like a print version of Gothamist, but we'll let editor-in-chief Michael Freidson explain: "We're not looking to do some cheesy, hand-holding outreach — we just want to things we'd like to do, and give readers access they wouldn't normally have."

Anywhere that tells us where to play free Wii Tennis is okay. More details after the jump.

It's 11am Saturday morning and your hangover is fading. Now what?

Now you get off your butt and own this town.

In Time Out New York's brand-spanking-new section, Own This City, we've picked through the best of street fairs, parks, parades, sports, and all that crazy New York randomness you end up writing in your blog to bring you the ultimate weekly guide to New York.

A thoroughly modern reinterpretation of the tried and true Around Town section, Time Out New York's new effort to Own This City starts by connecting with our real readers in the real world. Sunday, August 24, you can join our writers for our Great Walk—this week, it's gay-themed, with an appearance by singer Wendy Ho. Or Monday, you can play free Wii Tennis at the Village Pourhouse, in honor of the U.S. Open.

"We're not looking to do some cheesy, hand-holding outreach — we just want to things we'd like to do, and give readers access they wouldn't normally have," says Editor-in-Chief Michael Freidson. "We did the same with our TONY Makes Dreams Come True issue and got a huge response."

Just like Ferris Bueller once said, "The question isn't what are we going to do, the question is what aren't we going to do?" TONY's new section, Own This City, is going to let New Yorkers answer that question for themselves.
