Fish Food: Playboy, Colbert Edition

philippines.jpg

Delectable bits from around the web:

-- Go east, young magazine. Following in the industry trend of magazines launching international editions -- with particular interest in the East -- Playboy magazine is launching their Philippine Edition next week, on April 2 at Sofitel Hotel in Pasay City. The models, however, will be clothed. Playboy Philippine editor-in-chief Beting Laygo Dolor told abs-cbnNEWS.com's Carmela Fonbuena, ''No, Playboy Philippines will not be more daring than FHM ... We will be adjusted to the local culture and sensibilities.''

-- George Washington. Abraham Lincoln. John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Stephen Colbert (Averted Gaze). Although FishbowlNY frenemy Stephen Colbert's Presidential ambitions were so brutally thwarted in The Palmetto State, his likeness hangs, proudly, at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. At least until -- drum roll please -- April Fool's Day. According to The Baltimore Sun's Swamp Blog: ''The portrait of Stephen Colbert, the host of a nighttime comedy show that satirizes cable news punditry, is in its final week of display at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. While the picture was originally scheduled to be taken down weeks ago, the Portrait Gallery decided to leave the portrait up until April Fools Day to accommodate spring break visitors.

''... Bethany Bentley of the Portrait Gallery said that the museum can't tell how many additional visitors the Colbert portrait has drawn specifically. But she said the National Portrait Gallery and the American Art Museum, which are housed under the same roof, have seen an increase in visitors since the portrait debuted. Compared to last year, there's been an increase of 20 percent in January and 30 percent in February.'' Full post here.

-- New York Times Op-Ed columnist Bob Herbert will deliver the annual Robert W. van de Velde, Jr. Memorial Lecture at Middlebury College titled ''Beyond the Bush Years: An exploration of the tough challenges facing the United States in the early years of the 21st century.'' The lecture, free and open the public, is on April 9 at 4:30 p.m. More info here.
