Fish Food: Rush, Cathie Black, Ulmann's Arianna Edition
Delectable bits from around the web: -- Franklin and Marshall College pollster Dr. Terry Madonna stopped ny MSNBC yesterday morning to talk about the influence of WABC radio talker Rush Limbaugh's influence on the Democratic primary. ''There are a few Republicans voting Democratic to cause 'mischief,' as Mr. Limbaugh might put it ... maybe as many as 50% of the voters will be new (to vote in the Democratic primary) because of Limbaugh or the Obama-Clinton switches.'' -- Al Neuharth presented Cathie Black with the Free Spirits Award at Freedom Forum's Free Spirit Awards ceremony at the Newseum last Wednesday. From The Washington Times: ''More than ever, the night belonged to Al Neuharth, founder of both the forum and USA Today, present in his signature white jacket and ever ready to spread the project's theme motto of 'Dream Dare Do' -- what the chosen Free Spirits are meant to represent. '''Absolutely, be a rebel and absolutely break a few rules. But you have to know the ones to break,' cautioned this year's Free Spirit of the Year award winner, Cathie Black, a graduate of Washington's Trinity College who is president of Hearst Magazines and a past president-publisher of USA Today. "It's not about being bad but about being ... good. It's about caring for what you do and never taking no for an answer.''' Black used the forum to also make mention of feminist media icons Gloria Steinem, Helen Gurley Brown and Oprah Winfrey. The Newseum will open to the public on April 11.
-- Tracy Ullman's Showtime series 'Tracey Ullman's State of the Union,' takes on HuffPo founder Arianna Huffington. From Variety: '''I like Arianna. I think she's a very stabilizing influence in (State of the Union),' Ullman says in her best Arianna voice. 'She's a good character for us because she can comment on things.' ''Ullman's Arianna is, not surprisingly, blog-obsessed enough to sleep with her laptop ('I do enough blog jokes to last a lifetime,' Ullman admits). ''... Ullman sent her a batch of screeners, but the Huffington Post publisher has been working round the clock to finish her new book, 'Right Is Wrong,' and hasn't had a spare moment to watch. '''I love Tracey Ullman, and I love her work,' Huffington says. 'I'm a huge fan of hers.''' (image of Ullman as Huffington via gather) Email This Post |
