Michael Freidson Is Stepping Down As Time Out New York EIC
The Observer broke the news that Michael Freidson is leaving his post as editor in chief of Time Out New York to pursue a job in London. According to Freidson, he had not been looking for other opportunities when a London-based company offered him a new job across the pond. As he and his wife saw it, now was the time to take advantage of such an opportunity before, say, finding themselves with “10 kids to put through Jewish Day school.”
Freidson has been with TONY since 1996 — a year after its launch — when he began as an intern working on the magazine’s inaugural Student Guide.
Also, cue tiny siren of excitement: Freidson, whose last day is tomorrow, October 5, has said that a replacement will likely come from outside TONY.
