More Luncheon: In Beauty Trade, Blogs ‘As Important As Magazines’

More ladies than usual were lunching at Le Cirque yesterday, when the magazine honored women featured in their September Style issue. Editor-in-chief Peggy Northrop greeted the women, urging them to engage in “smart talk” discussions over their Chilean sea bass. Reinvention was the topic, conveniently, as More is hosting their first-ever “Reinvention Convention” October 9, and was clearly gunning to attract this crowd of formidable females to the first-ever event.

Attendees included Jodi Applegate, co-host of Fox 5′s Good Day New York, Dianne Vavra, vice president of public relations for Dior Beauty, and Tony Award-winning actress Christine Ebersole.

At our table, More contributing editor Charla Krupp was eager to discuss the reluctance of advertisers to open their efforts to 40-plus women, and a good portion of the lunch centered around the fabulousness of those past 40.

Conversation ran the gamut, from protesters at fashion shows dubbing Nicole Miller “Nicole Killer” for featuring fur (albeit a mere one percent of the designer’s overall business, we were assured) to the online fallout surrounding Lancome’s fashion-forward lipstick shade of earlier this year, Proenza Pink (think: Pepto-Bismol), tied to the design duo of fashion darlings, but which the blogosphere roundly condemned (the same blogosphere that Lancome U.S. PR head Kerry Diamond, late of Bazaar billed “as important as magazines” when it came to the promotion of her company’s high-end beauty offerings).
