Murdoch Continues to Rage Against the Times, the Google

rupert_murdoch04072010.jpgFollowing an appearance last night at the Washington, DC’s National Press Club, News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch is once again making headlines, and the media mogul is once again sounding off against some of his favorite nemeses.

The Guardian reports:

“We are going to stop people like Google or Microsoft or whoever from taking stories for nothing … there is a law of copyright and they recognise it,” Murdoch told a packed audience of students, journalists and other media professionals.

This isn’t the first time Murdoch has set his sites on Google. An advocate of subscription models, Murdoch has lately been readying paywalls at some of his UK newspapers. His Wall Street Journal is charging a hefty sum for subscriptions to its iPad app.

paidContent quotes Murdoch on his vision for Web-based subscriptions: “I think when they’ve got nowhere else to go they’ll start paying and if it’s reasonable — no one’s going to ask for a lot of money.”

Murdoch also took potshots at The New York Times, which he says is too soft on the Obama administration. He said he doesn’t have a personal beef with Times Co. chairman Arthur Sulzberger, whose face the Journal recently displayed for an article discussing the appeal of men with feminine features.

The New York Times, long the subject of Murdoch’s distaste, faces a direct attack from News Corp. publication The Wall Street Journal, which is launching a metro New York section later this month to challenge the Times.
