The nightly news rivals ABC, CBS and NBC have taken their war to the streets — and subways and buildings — of Manhattan.

Via Broadcasting and Cable:

Beginning Sept. 1, CBS will herald [Katie] Couric‘s arrival by plastering the face of the former Today co-host in the New York subway station below her old NBC stomping ground, Rockefeller Center. “It will remind the employees when they go home,” says George Schweitzer, longtime president of the CBS Marketing Group. The poster barrage, which will also hit CBS’ display properties in Grand Central and Penn stations, is part of a massive multimillion-dollar promotional effort … As part of its outside media push, CBS will be the inaugural sponsor of The New York Times’ new online TV section, which launches Sept. 4 with new listings and program descriptions.

Via the New York Times:

Beginning around Sept. 1, an image of [Brian] Williams, four stories tall, will loom over the CBS Broadcast Center in Manhattan from a banner at West 57th Street and 10th Avenue.
