New Trump Mag Publisher: ‘I Should Have Done Some More Research’

Last night at the Trump Towers, Donald Trump and Ocean Drive Media Group publisher Jerry Powers announced a partnership to publish the latest incarnation of a Trump magazine, TrumpTrump Magazine (our sources tell us Keith Kelly got the name wrong). The book will be “the coffee table, high-end book for luxury living,” Powers told the assorted suits and journos. The first issue will hit stands Thanksgiving weekend, in time for the pre-holiday shopping spree. The mogul/billionaire/reality star won’t write a column, but he did joke (we think), “I’m going to put my picture right on the front so we’ll sell lots of magazines.”

We couldn’t score an interview with The Donald (but thanks for trying, Becky), but Powers told FBNY that the magazine will be published from Ocean Drive’s Miami offices and will succeed where other Trump magazine’s have failed because “we’re doing it.” The publisher, who Keith Kelly reported has a five-year, $20 million agreement with Trump, admitted he wasn’t sure what was going to happen to the staff of the current version of Trump magazine, published by Premiere. “This was a rush job,” he told us. “I just started talking to Donald two weeks ago. I should have done some more research.” For now, Ocean Drive editor-in-chief Glen Albin will pull double-duty as EIC of Trump Life. (Later, we overheard Niche Media’s Jason Binn telling Powers, “We’ve got to make this work,” to which the publisher responded, “I know.”) Good luck, guys.
