ProPublica Fully Staffed, Ready to Destroy Evil
ProPublica, the Paul E. Steiger joint dedicated to saving investigative journalism in America, finally filled out its news team. T. Christian Miller escapes the hemorrhaging Los Angeles Times to become a reporter, while another Left coaster, the Sacramento Bee's Dan Nguyen, comes aboard as Web producer. Lisa Schwartz, a veteren researcher for World News Tonight, Good Morning America and ABC News Now among others, is ProPublica's research director. Additionally, two interns Sharona Coutts and Benjamin Protess join the ranks of the paid, receiving nine-month fellowships for their hard work making photocopies. Managing editor Stephen Engelberg is excited by the possibilities: "Now that our full news team is in place, we're gearing up to produce more investigative stories with 'moral force.' We have several pieces that we're close to finalizing and many more in development. By the end of the year, we hope to have partnered with perhaps a half dozen media outlets to get those stories to the public." In June, ProPublica partnered with 60 Minutes to produce a report on Middle Eastern television network Al Hurra. More about the new hires and their flawless resumes after the jump. New York, NY (September 2, 2008) ProPublica, a non-profit newsroom producing journalism in the public interest, today announced three additions to its news staff and awarded its first fellowships. T. Christian Miller, staff writer of the Los Angeles Times, joins ProPublica as a reporter, Dan Nguyen, reporter/web developer for the Sacramento Bee, joins as web producer, and Lisa Schwartz joins as research director. Additionally, Sharona Coutts and Benjamin Protess, who had been interns at ProPublica, were named fellows, with nine-month appointments. Email This Post |
