NEW YORK CITY — JUNE 9 — New York Daily News Editor-in-Chief Martin Dunn today announced the appointment of David Ng as Executive Editor.

"I am delighted to welcome David back to his spiritual home as a key member of the team that is going to lead the Daily News into the future," said Dunn. "David is one of the most energetic journalists I have ever worked with, and his ideas and enthusiasm will be absolutely crucial during a period of significant innovation. I am delighted that he has decided to return."

Ng first worked for the Daily News from 1993 to 2000, holding various top editing jobs here including metropolitan editor and deputy managing editor. He started his newspaper career at the New York Post, working his way from reporter to associate managing editor over a 13-year period.

Ng was most recently assistant managing editor at the Newark Star-Ledger.

Bob Sapio promoted to Senior Executive Editor

Ng first worked for the Daily News from 1993 to 2000, holding various top editing jobs here including metropolitan editor and deputy managing editor. He started his newspaper career at the New York Post, working his way from reporter to associate managing editor over a 13-year period.

Ng last held the post of assistant managing editor at the Newark Star-Ledger, overseeing the deadline production of New Jersey's largest newspaper. Ng spent six years at the Star-Ledger.

"I'm thrilled to be returning to Daily News. As a kid who grew up on the Lower East Side and The Bronx, and as someone who now lives on Staten Island, the Daily News is my hometown newspaper," said Ng, a 25-year veteran of the newspaper business.

Dunn also announced the promotion of Bob Sapio to Senior Executive Editor.

The appointments come at an exciting time for the Daily News, which recently launched two weekly, 32-page local newspapers, the Queens News and the Brooklyn News. These borough-based weeklies allow the Daily News to strengthen its leadership position in the all-important core market — New York City and the New York metropolitan area.

The Daily News, New York's Hometown Newspaper, continues to be the newspaper with the largest readership in New York City and is the sixth largest daily paper in America.

The May 2006 release of the Scarborough Report underscores the Daily News' continued dominance of the New York DMA and in New York City. As reported in the May 2006 release, the daily readership of the Daily News is 2,695,100, compared to 2,061,300 for the New York Post and 1,808,800 for The New York Times. Meanwhile, the Sunday readership for the Daily News is 2,807,500, compared to 2,529,600 for The New York Times and 1,164,900 for the New York Post.
