NYT Tackles ‘Death by Blogging’

redbull.jpgSunday’s New York Times (front page, no less) chronicled the trials and tribulations of the blogging world. (Thanks for joining the party, guys.) In the past couple of months, two bloggers, Russell Shaw and Marc Orchant, have died of ailments attributed at least in part to the constant pressure of their chosen profession. The NYT doesn’t want to sound the panic alarm just yet — “To be sure, there is no official diagnosis of death by blogging, and the premature demise of two people obviously does not qualify as an epidemic.” — but the Paper of Record does want us all to know that blogging is a tough life. TechCrunch’s Michael Arrington thinks so. And Matt Buchanan, a writer at Gizmodo, falls asleep at his computer and doesn’t have time to eat properly. Then, there’s the humor blogger driving across the country to meet her readers. We miss the ink-stained days of newspaper yore.
