On The Menu: Gannett Might Be Bankrupt, But HuffPo’s Expanding

mmm_2-3.gifToday on the mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu podcast, GalleyCat’s Jason Boog and editorial director Rebecca Fox barreled through technical difficulties to discuss some breaking media headlines of the day.

This morning, Rebecca and Jason discussed news that USA TODAY publisher Gannett might have to declare bankruptcy and the launch of The Huffington Post‘s new New York section — including HuffPo’s announcement that it will be “partnering” with at least a dozen other news outlets to provide content to the site. Rebecca pointed out that it’s possible that HuffPo is not actually paying for the content from its partners, just promising that traffic will be driven to their sites.

“I think there’s a lot of places in New York that are hungry for this traffic and are really hoping that they can get some traffic that will help them survive in this brand new crazy advertising structure that we have,” Jason said. “I imagine there are people lining up to be partners with [HuffPo].”

Stay tuned through the technical difficulties and listen to the end of the chat from some insightful analysis and opinion. Tomorrow, get ready to work up a sweat first thing in the morning as Jason and Rebecca host erotica editor and author Rachel Kramer Bussel.
