From today's Wall Street Journal:

"Now, as Time Warner Inc.'s HBO is wrapping production on the first 12 episodes, key supporting-cast members are arguing that the additional eight shows constitute a new season, and they want their contracts renegotiated, people close to the situation said."

Word is James Gandolfini recently signed a new deal for $1 million per episode. Edie Falco (Carmela) signed for an undisclosed amount, and Lorraine Bracco (Dr. Melfi) is negotiating. But Michael Imperioli (Christopher), Tony Sirico (Paulie Walnuts), Steven Van Zandt (Silvio), Steven R. Schirripa (Bobby "Bacala" Baccalieri) are said to be among the actors seeking new deals.

Probably not the best timing, though, fellas:

The sixth-season premiere of The Sopranos on HBO suffered a 21% drop in total viewers compared with the fifth-season premiere in March 2004, according to Nielsen Media Research. About 9.5 million people tuned in Sunday. Among coveted young adults, The Sopranos fell 27%.

I'd also imagine it's difficult to negotiate when the show's brass could, say, kill off your character.
