The newest issue of Rolling Stone, featuring Lil’ Wayne opening up about his time in prison, hits newsstands today. Josh Eells gets the rapper to speak about a number of things, like how he spent his last month in solitary confinement. The article is available online for “Rolling Stone plus” members, but the magazine’s website has posted some excerpts. Here are a few highlights:
- He read the Bible and the biographies of Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix, Anthony Kiedis, Jim Morrison, Joan Jett, and Vince Lombardi to pass the time while in prison. Wayne basically summed up the entire Bible by saying, “I liked the parts where some character was once this, but he ended up being that. Like he’d be dissing Jesus, and then he ends up being a saint. That was cool.” Exactly.
- Wayne played a lot of Uno, and became really good at it. He explained, “I’d take nigga’s commissary: Lemme get them cookies, lemme get them chips, get that soup.”
- He should’ve spent more than just a month in solitary confinement, but his friend Charles took the heat for a watch that was also an MP3 player.
