Perhaps the crime "wasn't substantial enough to grip the rest of the nation" — a.k.a those outside of WWD's subscription list. Ludicrous but, sadly, true. But thanks to Peter Braunstein's "monstrous" manifesto, which chronicles his fantasies of killing Vogue editrix Anna Wintour, his trial just got a lot more interesting.

"I'm going to kill Anna Wintour because I feel like it," Braunstein wrote in a monstrous manifesto that cops found after he was arrested for dressing up like a firefighter and sexually abusing a former co-worker on Halloween 2005. Braunstein wrote that he wasn't content to just shoot Vogue magazine's editor-in-chief, because that would be "too impersonal."

The "Fire Fiend" fantasized about killing the Devil after he was fired by Women's Wear Daily over a gripe he had "raising a ruckus about only getting one ticket to the Vogue Fashion Awards. Braunstein described how she would be "escorted by eunuchs to a place in Hell run entirely by large rats."

Manhattan Justice Thomas Farber ruled that the passage could be introduced by prosecutors to the jury, but that Braunstein's apparent research on "Son of Sam" David Berkowitz, Andrew Cunanan — who murdered fashion designer Gianni Versace — Columbine killers Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris and the Hannibal Lecter character was not admissible.
