Snooki and the The Situation take MTV to Number One in New York

Led by the hugely-successful “Jersey Shore,” MTV grabbed the number one spot in the weekly ratings for its August 12 episode.
MTV pulled in an estimated 819,000 viewers with a 4.1 rating, according to the Nielsen Company.
Meantime, as the summer winds down, the pennant races heat up.
The Yankees shot to number two for the week (656,000/3.3), in a game broadcast by WWOR/Channel 9 on August 10.
Five other Yankee telecasts cracked the Top 30, all of which were on the YES Network.
The Mets, despite struggling in the standings, helped lift ESPN to a Top 15 showing. It was “Sunday Night Baseball” loss to the Phillies.
Taking hold of the third position was Fox reality show “Hell’s Kitchen” starring Chef Gordon Ramsay (620,000/3.1).
Also on Fox, the “So You Think You Can Dance” two-hour finale spun its way to number four (612,000/3.0) on WNYW/Fox 5.
With that lead-in, “Fox 5 News at 10,” with anchors Ernie Anastos and Dari Alexander catapulted to 17th place (454,000/2.3).
Other highlights:
The HBO long-running comedy “Entourage” found a home tied for fourth (595,000/3.0) this week among New Yorkers.
TNT also had a victorious week. “The Closer” starring Kyra Sedgwick, (574,000/2.9) and “Rizzoli and Isles,” gave the cable network a strong 1-2 punch. The shows on August 9 finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
“60 Minutes” traditionally ranking among the highest for the week, locally and nationally, could only muster a tie for 25th (436,000/2.2)on WCBS.
