Special Honor for Joan Hamburg, Veteran WOR Host

Longtime WOR 710 radio personality Joan Hamburg has been named the “New Yorker of the Year” by the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce.

Hamburg, 75, has been a regular on WOR for decades.

“This honor is truly deserved as [she] is a legend in her field,” Valerie Smaldone, a WOR colleague, told FishbowlNY. “[Joan] is a super New Yorker because she loves to navigate the city and enjoy all that it offers.”

Billed as “New York Radio’s First Lady,” Hamburg began her career while a student at Barnard College.  She created and wrote New York on Five Dollars a Day for New York magazine.

She has been a contributing editor at Family Circle, and her articles have appeared in Woman’s Day, Ladies Home Journal, and Parade magazines.

The annual award showcases individuals who have made contributions toward the prosperity of New York City.
