Sports Illustrated to Cut up to 16

Sports Illustrated, in what has been deemed a move to better integrate its print and digital operations, is likely to let go of about 16 staffers.

WWD reports that the final number depends on the salaries of those who accepted buyouts, but the breakdown is looking like “up to one senior editor will be let go, up to three associate editors, up to three writers, up to one photo editor and up to three writer-reporters.”

Last week Terry McDonell, the editor of Time Inc.’s Sports Group, said he believed the cuts would help SI become more efficient, adding that the losses “will be substantially smaller than what we’ve done in the past.”
