Star Magazine Lowers Base Rate: Blame Lower Priced Weeklies

Star Magazine, according to the WWD Memo Pad, is lowering its base rate to 1.25 million in January. This news comes on the heels of the staff slashings this past spring. From Memopad:

”But don’t blame new Star editor in chief Candace Trunzo for the drop in single-copy sales – competition from lower-priced titles In Touch, Life & Style and OK! have eaten into some of Star’s newsstand share.”

Magazine wholesalers also have been hard hit by the low priced celebrity weekly phenomenon.
