Strike Watch: WGA Signs Interim Agreement With Media Rights Capital

The Writers Guild of America announced this afternoon that they have signed a comprehensive agreement with Media Rights Capital (MRC). The MRC is an independent film, television, and digital studio. ”This is an exciting agreement that will open up opportunities for writers, especially in New Media,” said Patric M. Verrone, president of the Writers Guild of America, West, and Michael Winship, president of the Writers Guild of America, East in a press release. ”We know that Guild members will be eager to be a part of the MRC creative team.”

This interim agreement follows in the footsteps of the divide-and-conquer strategy that the guilds have been using against the AMPTP. The terms of the agreement with MRC are similar to the Worldwide Pants and United Artists deals cleared within the last few weeks.
