Superman, David Hirshey and Daily News Reporter Sean Evans Play Soccer in Chinatown

chinatown10.02.08.jpgEarlier this afternoon we jumped on the subway, headed into Manhattan and watched a celebrity soccer game in Sara Roosevelt Park featuring former players such as Tony Meola and celebrities including Superman Brandon Routh and Without a Trace star Anthony LaPaglia. HarperCollinsDavid Hirshey coached one team.

The event was in support of Grassroot Soccer, an organization co-founded by Survivor-Africa winner Ethan Zohn that’s dedicated to raising AIDS awareness in Africa.

Hirshey, who left Deadspin for ESPN.com in June, told us he was enjoying writing for the Worldwide Leader. The editor said Zohn approached him about writing a book after winning Survivor but he “had nothing to say back then.” Now though? “He has a good story,” Hirshey told us. See, getting a possible book deal with HarperCollins is easy: Just start an international charity.

A couple pictures after the jump.
