Suspicious Envelopes Sent to Wall Street Journal Execs

wsj012109.jpgMultiple outlets are reporting that Wall Street Journal employees received at least 12 envelopes filled with a suspicious white powder earlier this morning. The packages were addressed to some of the paper’s executives.

Authorities are investigating suspicious packages delivered to our World Financial Center offices. As a precaution, the 9th and 11th floors have been evacuated while police and other safety personnel assess any potential hazard. Elevators are closed on those floors, requiring transit by emergency stairs.

Officials believe the situation will be handled safely. “While we don’t think there is cause for alarm at this time, we are asking everyone not to open any mail while we investigate,” Dow Jones vice president of communications Howard Hoffman said in the email to the WSJ.

We’ll keep the news coming when we hear it.
