New Essence Features Angela Bassett

The March issue of Essence will feature the magazine’s fourth annual Black Women in Hollywood Awards, and among the honorees is Angela Bassett, who also graces the cover.

Bassett discusses how much passion she has for acting, and how she considers a  character’s strength before deciding to take on the role:

When I look at a role, I will deliberately find the joy, the sensitivity, the strength, the vulnerability, the resilience. Because that’s what I appreciate about women and black women, in particular. That’s what I want to celebrate—our resilience and our strength.

Other actresses being highlighted include Viola Davis, Jennifer Hudson and Loretta Devine. The March issue hits newsstands February 11th.

More Than We Needed: ‘Did You Ever Hear of Chlymadia?’

Event co-hostess and actress Angela Bassett [left] narrates the runway walk of More model search finalist Paula O’Connor, who went on to win a Wilhemina modeling contract as a runner-up

In addition to a ridiculous number of lobster salad-stocked buffet stations, the sprawling space housed a proper catwalk on which the 10 40+ candidates for three Wilhemina modeling contracts strutted their mature stuff.
