Golf World Has Folded

Golf World, the oldest golf-centric magazine in the nation, is closing up shop. According to Ad Age, publisher Condé Nast is folding the print edition and shifting any further content under the Golf Digest website. About 10 Golf World staffers have been cut as a result of the change.

As part of the folding, Golf World subscribers will now receive a weekly email newsletter and copies of Golf Digest, which is published monthly.

Golf World’s editor, Jaime Diaz, will retain his title and continue reporting to Jerry Tarde, editor of Golf Digest. Dan Robertson will continue as publisher of both titles.

Golf World’s first issue was published in 1947, one year after Ben Hogan won his first major.

Dan Robertson Named Publisher of Golf Digest and Golf World

Golf Digest Companies, which operates under the Condé Nast umbrella, has named Dan Robertson publisher of Golf Digest and Golf World.  Robertson has been associate publisher of both titles since 2010. Previously he was vice president of sales for Golf Channel and publisher of This Old House.

“The business of golf and the game of golf are Dan’s personal passions,” said Peter Hunsinger, president and publisher of Golf Digest Companies, in a statement. “His leadership and big-idea skills will guarantee his success in the new role. I am excited to partner with Dan on a bigger platform.”

Laura Sequenzia, the previous publisher of Golf World, is taking a position as senior executive director of corporate partnerships for Condé Nast Media Group.

What’s Left At Condé Nast?

conde nast logo.jpgCondé Nast is one of the largest magazine publishers in the U.S., and the news earlier this week that it was shuttering four titles really didn’t change that.

Condé still has 18 consumer magazine titles, plus two trades — WWD and Footwear News — under its Fairchild Publications arm. But the company had been working hard to streamline it portfolio in the past year.
