Goldderby.com Generates Another Sparkling Awards Season Scoop

Here’s a vivid reminder of just how well Tom O’Neil and his group of goldderby.com editors know the Emmy Awards beat.

Thanks to a recent Skype discussion between O’Neil, Chris Beachum, Matt Noble and Daniel Montgomery about the Best Supporting Comedy Actor chances of New Girl’s Max Greenfield (pictured), the performer’s Hollywood agents realized the wrong episode had been submitted on the co-star’s behalf. Instead of “Control,” which Greenfield’s reps had selected, the DVD reproduction house somehow pressed copies of the episode “Bad in Bed.” Tipped by Gold Derby, the TV  Academy worked with the actor’s team to remedy the mistake and get new discs out to voters with special instructions in time for the September 17 deadline.

“It’s definitely one of Gold Derby’s top ten scoops,” O’Neil tells FishbowlLA via telephone. “But nothing will likely surpass our story about Katherine Heigl lashing out at her writers after having withdrawn from Emmy consideration for Grey’s Anatomy. She was ticked off at her writers, and then there was that whole backlash against her after the story broke.”

End of the Line for WNBC’s New York Live

It’s been a tumultous run for New York Live. The lifestyle and fashion-heavy show is being canceled in the fall, a WNBC spokeswoman confirms to FishbowlNY.

New York Live, originally called LX New York, debuted to much criticism in September 2009 when it replaced news at 5 p.m.

But audiences never fully latched on.

By February 2010, Jane Hanson, a Channel 4 veteran anchor and recent cast off, was brought on board for stability to the sinking ship with co-anchor Sara Gore. Jacque Reid was added as a third host in September 2011.

But the die was cast in May 2011, when the LX TV-produced program opted for the name change from LX New York. Four months later, WNBC did an about-face–reinstating news at 5 p.m. and moving New York Live to 3 p.m.

The spokeswoman says no decision has been made “as to what programming will take that time slot,” but the Daily News speculates that syndicated talk shows hosted by Jeff Probst and Steve Harvey are both likely candidates to grab the 3 p.m. time slot.

The FishbowlLA Interview with Charlie Sheen: ‘If I saw Chuck [Lorre] on the street I would give him a hug. For the first seven years, not the eighth.’

He’s still got it.

The long odyssey surrounding his abrupt departure from Two and a Half Men is long over, but Charlie Sheen still knows how to throw a party, and he still has strong feelings about the incident, even if he doesn’t exactly know what happened.

“I don’t know what it was, I am still baffled by it. Can that ever happen again, the way it did?” Sheen told us, after being asked whether another celebrity could find themselves in a similar situation. “Who could you make Being John Malkovich about, if not John Malkovich?”

The ArKadia nightclub at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach has been taken over by Sheen, Lionsgate TV and Debmar-Mercury, the producer and distributor of his new show, Anger Management. There are mermaids swimming in the outdoor pool, and women dressed as tables (yes, seriously) on which drinks have been placed. There are a handful of celebrities in attendance, including Katie Couric, Jeff Probst, Ricki Lake and Steve Harvey.

We are sitting in Sheen’s VIP cabana, it is nearly midnight. He would have an excellent view of the mermaids and the pool, except there is a throng of people on the other side of the velvet rope, wanting to say hi.

“It looks like chaos, but everyone is happy to see me, nothing but kind words to offer,” he says.

That doesn’t mean he is pleased with the way he has treated in the press. When asked about making the press rounds to promote his new show, he replied with a rebuke of the harsh words that have been thrown at him over the last year.

“I don’t really care, because I don’t take any of it personally, it is just words, coming from people that don’t know anything about me. So how much stock can you put in it, you know, a strangers random opinion?” Sheen said. “It is like getting mad at a three-year old for hurting your feelings. I never read anything anymore, because all that happens is you get upset.”

Emmys Take Reality TV To New Low Levels

Ryan Seacrest.jpgThe Emmy Awards will sink to new highs — or perhaps lows, depending on your viewing habits — with their presentation of Reality TV emcee emmys, the TV Academy announced.

It’s no surprise as it was just a year ago that “American Idol” emcee Ryan Seacrest was named to host the Emmy telecast in the first place.

“I look at reality as part of what holds up television as a whole,” Craig Plestis, who oversees reality TV for NBC Universal, told Variety. “You need nonscripted series to be one of the legs that holds up that table.”

The category’s first five nominees are a round-up of the usual suspects of Reality TV: Tom Bergeron of “Dancing With the Stars,” “Survivor’s” Jeff Probst, “Project Runway’s” Heidi Klum, “Deal or No Deal’s” Howie Mandel and “American Idol’s” Seacrest.

Good times are had by all on Emmy night.

And I don’t think anyone is expecting the winner to ask Sasheen Littlefeather to accept the statuette. For those you who forget your history and are no doubt condemned to repeat it, Littlefeather took the stage during the 1973 Oscars when Marlon Brando won the best actor award.

She said he wasn’t interested.
