Veteran Photo Director Departs Us Weekly

Brittain Stone, a veteran of Us Weekly for 14 years, is leaving his post. Adweek reports that Stone will be replaced by Jennifer Halper, formerly the magazine’s Deputy Photo Editor.

It’s not known why Stone left, but sources told Adweek that he didn’t get along with Mike Steele, Us Weekly’s Editor-in-Chief. Steele was just given a contract extension by Jann Wenner in October.

Us Weekly Stays The Course, Keeps EIC

Despite Us Weekly suffering through some poor newsstand sales, the magazine is keeping Mike Steele, its Editor-in-Chief, reports The New York Post. When Steele began as Editor-in-Chief last year sales were healthy, but as his contract inched toward ending, times have been much tougher:

Staff was growing tense in recent weeks as Us Weekly began turning in some of its worst-selling newsstand issues in history — somewhere in the 600,000 or lower bracket — and even Star was said to have beaten it on the newsstand a few times in recent weeks.

Some reportedly thought this would give Jann Wenner all the evidence he needed to oust Steele, but that didn’t happen. With weeks to spare Steele got a new contract. The only known terms of the deal are that it’s for two more years.
