Vanity Fair Profile Alleges Wendi Deng Physically Abused Rupert Murdoch

In a Vanity Fair profile of Wendi Deng, the former wife of media titan Rupert Murdoch, Mark Seals details how the pair’s marriage turned for the worse. Not only did Deng appreciate other men — specifically, Tony Blair and his “really really good legs Butt” — but she was allegedly physically abusive toward Murdoch:

It allegedly had gotten physical in early 2011, in [the Murdoch’s] triplex on Fifth Avenue in New York. ‘[Deng] got angry at [Murdoch] and shoved him, and he fell backwards into the piano in the living room and then onto the floor, and he couldn’t get up,’ says an individual to whom Rupert confided at the time. ‘He had to have emergency treatment that night.’ The former News Corp. employee in the U.K. adds, ‘He clearly hurt himself, and he made some excuse that he tripped over something in the office. He made excuses that he wasn’t well. He only talked about what happened later.’

If all of this account is true, it’s no wonder the two split up. It doesn’t seem like there was much there worth saving.

Rupert Murdoch is Dating His Massage Therapist

Rupert-Murdoch-10-7Rupert Murdoch is 82 years old, but he’s still getting his groove on. Murdoch is now dating his “younger” massage therapist.

Murdoch moves fast, doesn’t he? The media mogul filed for divorce from Wendi Deng in June, and now he’s back in the game and feeling great. “His own hurt feelings have been soothed by a new romantic interest, a younger woman who has been traveling with him — his massage therapist — who, he has told friends, has made him very happy,” reported USA Today.

Please refrain from any “happy ending” jokes you feel coming on.

Rupert Murdoch Files for Divorce, Won’t Affect News Corp Split (Deadline Hollywood)
News Corp Chairman/CEO Rupert Murdoch filed for divorce from wife Wendi Deng Murdoch Thursday morning in New York State Supreme Court, Deadline learned at 9 a.m. The divorce will not impact Rupert’s mega-media holdings, according to insiders, and was deliberately announced for maximum transparency before News Corp spins off its publishing assets into a separately traded company by June 28. WSJ Nearly all of the Murdoch family’s voting stock — a block of 38.4 percent — is held through the Murdoch Family Trust, whose beneficiaries are Rupert’s six children. It is likely that a prenuptial agreement makes it impossible for Wendi to obtain voting shares in the company in the event of a divorce, an attorney familiar with New York laws said. The attorney added that a New York judge would probably not award her any stock in court, as New York courts generally don’t keep people as partners in business when they can’t stay partners in marriage. TVNewser The couple married in 1999, 17 days after Rupert’s divorce from his second wife was finalized. They have two daughters together: Grace, 11, and Chloe, 9. Wendi, who is the chief of strategy for MySpace in China, famously slapped a man who attempted to attack Rupert during his testimony in front of a British Parliament committee about phone-hacking at his London newspapers. NY Mag / Daily Intelligencer For years, it seemed apparent to Rupert’s lieutenants that he was living a separate life from Wendi and was OK with it. Wendi, for her part, seemed happy, too. Wendi reinvented herself as an alpha mom and Hollywood personality, striking up friendships with a diverse circle that included Sergey Brin and Nicole Kidman. THR A spokesperson for former British prime minister Tony Blair flatly denied media rumors that Wendi was romantically involved with him. Murdoch and Deng met in 1997 and married in 1999, just weeks after his divorice with Anna Maria Torv Murdoch Mann was finalized. We have two questions:

2) Without Deng, who will protect Murdoch from pie attacks?

Rupert Murdoch Breaks Silence on New York Post, FishbowlNY Says You’re Welcome, Guys

Rupert Murdoch dragged a wrinkled finger across his iPad yesterday, scanning Twitter to see who was mentioning him. And that’s when he saw it, the tweet and paired blog post that made his eyes widen and his cheeks flush. He mouthed a breathy “no,” as he read it.

The guys from FishbowlNY had skewered him, and his beloved New York Post tabloid, again.

The leather desk chair creaked as he sat back, sighing exasperatedly. He placed the iPad on his mahogany desk. Unsure if he was angry, or just embarrassed, he thought about it. Maybe I’ll buy Mediabistro and just put those hacks out of the job, he thought. Or maybe I’ll sue them for libel, he thought, but quickly brushed off the idea, because he knows he doesn’t need any more legal woes. The phone hacking thing was enough. No need to drag some brazen bastards before a judge and jury.

He scratched his forehead, the creased 82-year-old skin molding like Silly Putty ™ in his finger tips.

Only one thing to do, he thought. I’ve got to launch a stellar defense of my newspaper, my New York Post, my baby.

“Wendi,” he called across the room to his wife, Wendi Deng, who was catching her breath after verbally demolishing the new maid for breathing too loud or something like that. “Can you look over my shoulder on this one? I want to make sure I get it just right — so all the world’s media gazers recant their criticisms of the Post.”

“Sure,” she said, and cracked her knuckles.

Old Rupe started tapping away at the screen.

“Yeah, yeah, that’s perfect, darling,” Wendi said. “This will probably boost the Post‘s subscription sales! You’re so smart.”

Rupert smiled. He clicked send. And the rest of us got this:

So, on behalf of my co-editor Chris O’Shea and the rest of FishbowlNY, you’re welcome.

Editor’s note: This is more satire. Duh.

Rupert Murdoch, Golden Globes Good Sport

Throughout the 69th Annual Golden Globes telecast this past Sunday, there were frequent audience shots showing Rupert Murdoch seated at one of the tables, next to his wife Wendi Deng.

Murdoch may be instantly recognizable to FishbowlLA, but apparently it was a different story for some on the Beverly Hilton red carpet. Here’s what happened when the media mogul crossed into the pre-show real estate where HFPA member Ruben Nepales was working. Per Nepales:

Our instruction at the red carpet entrance was to ask arriving guests for their IDs only if they didn’t look familiar. Well, an assistant helping us asked Murdoch for his ID. Before we could say, “Not necessary,” the media tycoon had whisked it out.

The Youngest Voices in New York

What’s scarier than kids? Nothing! Well, aside from rich and powerful kids. With that in mind, Alice Gregory and Jessica Pressler over at Daily Intel have put together a slideshow of the 10 most powerful kids in New York.

As for New York media’s little giants, Grace Helen and Chloe Murdoch, the children of Rupert Murdoch and wife Wendi Deng, are listed. That’s not all, because as a “bonus,” the fetus of Lauren Santo Domingo, Contributing Editor at Vogue is included on the slideshow.

We can now cross “write about fetuses” off of our Tuesday to-do list.
