Tagging at Technorati: Innovative and cool, especially if you almost understand it
Technorati, the search engine of choice for the blogosphere, introduced “tagging” at the beginning of the year, and since then more than 14 million blog-posts have been tagged, using more than one million distinct tags to do it.
(“Tagging” is a method of categorizing blog posts so they’re be more easily searchable, using a number of applicable keywords like “Roger Ailes” or “Katie Couric’s Legs” or “Fishy-fish-fish.” There’s a good primer here and also here.) Tagging ain’t perfect, considering there really are people who will tag as per the example above, but when you’re dealing with the massive volume of information out there (yes, we did say 14 million) any organization is gonna be a good thing. Anyhow, it’s just cool, and since we’re only getting more overloaded with information, we just want to help you organize it. That’s Fishbowl, always striving to be useful.
Also useful: DARTH TATER! Hee, Star Wars puns make fun toys, and the mere mention of Star Wars, Revenge of the Sith, Darth Vader, Anakin Skywalker, Yoda, Boba Fett, Jar Jar Binks, and that evil emperor dude, what’s his name – oh, right, Palpatine – totally drives traffic to our site. Wookie! Ewok! Amidala! Plus, I needed a graphic and geekdom begets geekdom.
