Tales of the Tribune Co.: The Exodus Begins
In what we have to imagine will be a recurring theme this summer as editors attempt to grapple with Sam Zell‘s “deep cuts” before concluding that maybe this sinking ship isn’t worth staying on after all, Scott Smith, publisher of the Chicago Tribune is stepping down.
In a memo to employees Smith, a 30-year Tribune Co. employee, said he will step down once a replacement is found, he also “alluded to a clash of styles and views with Tribune Co. boss Sam Zell.” Says Smith: “Sam, Randy and I agree it’s time for new leadership to lead the next wave of market-driven change in our business.” Snap!
