The Atlantic Monthly is neither Atlantic nor monthly. Discuss.

atlanttic mo.jpgA great hue and cry was raised when The Atlantic (ne&#233 Monthly) announced that it was picking up and moving to D.C., leaving Boston and, uh, the Atlantic behind. But in yesterday’s NYT, Matthew Pearl says that it actually makes no difference. Perhaps the shock won’t register after the hue and cry raised when the magazine announced it was cutting fiction back to an online, special-interest presence. Or perhaps it’s just conceding victory to The New Yorker.

Either way, he may be right: Boston or D.C., the articles are still too darn long for us.
