The Edwin Coaster Correspondence: When life imitates satire
The April issue of Vanity Fair features an Edwin Coaster correspondence that revolves around a conflict-of-interest where the fictional journalist is paid to write a favorable story about underage drinking at the behest of an alcohol-related lobby that’s paying him a “consulting fee.” Shades of Armstrong Williams, sure, but haven’t we seen “consulting fees” and potentially related stories before? In very close proximity to VF? Is the self-referentiality intentional or just oblivious?
