The New York Times Offers Huge Discount to Subscribers

We subscribe to The New York Times (and you should to) because we believe in supporting the best journalism in the nation, not because of the discounts the paper sometimes sends us via email. But every once in awhile, we do get an offer that makes us excited. This is not about one of those times.

A little bit ago we received an email that detailed an “exclusive discount” to the Times’ Times Talk series. These talks are usually pretty interesting, so we thought we’d check it out instead of immediately deleting the email. The discount the Times is offering us? Five dollars off. That’s right. About the cost of three king size Whatchamacallits.

We know we shouldn’t be complaining about getting any discount, but c’mon. Five dollars? That’s lame. And let’s be honest, you’d have to pay us to sit through Guy Fieri talking for over an hour.
